Along with being a pop hit, the song made an appearance on the country charts, which was a first for Clapton. After some commercial disappointments, the Slowhand album was something of a comeback for Clapton. General Comment I think it's an awfully boring song. General Comment Boring? Sorry it doesn't have enough screaming or bass for you. This is Clapton: respect one of the many fathers of rock and roll. Just plain good, a true classic. General Comment Now that I look at it, the lyrics would make sense as a kidnapping song.

These lyrics aren't about kidnapping, and they wouldn't make sense that way. They are about the singer telling Sally how much he loves her, and he doesn't want her to leave to go to work, say. When he says he doesn't want her to leave, he means both right now, stay with him and forever, be with him. The tone is all wrong for a kidnapping song. Also: don't be such an asshole, please. While Clapton's songs are often based on the blues, this is a rather upbeat number in which he is trying to convince his lover, Sally, to stay with him - not only for the night - but for all time: Won't you make yourself at home and stay with me? And don't you ever leave. Billboard Magazine. United States: Prometheus Global Media. United States: Rovi Corporation.
