The Poke Radar can only be used in normal grass that wild Pokemon appear in. You also cannot use this while you are on your bike. Furthermore, after you use it, it requires a step recharging period before you can use it again which can be done on the bike. When it is used, you will see multiple squares of grass start to rustle for a second. Some might rustle more violently than others, and these indicate a better chance to find a rare Pokemon.
Once you enter one of these squares, a battle will begin. However, these are not the only squares you can still find Pokemon in. If you don't use a Repel, you can still find Pokemon in normal encounters. After a Radar-induced wild Pokemon battle that resulted in a catch or fainting of the wild Pokemon ie, you cannot run away , the Radar will start up again, and more grass will rustle.
At this point, you will have a good chance of seeing the same species of Pokemon if you choose a patch of grass that rustled in a similar way and farther away. So, if it rustled easily the first time, make sure it moves easily the next time. If you do not encounter the same Pokemon, you will not be able to do this again. This is commonly known as chaining. In order to continue chaining, you'll need a Repel; a normal battle breaks the chain.
It is commonly used when none of the four patches is deemed likely to continue the chain; this determination varies between games. As the chain length increases, the probability of finding a Shiny patch also increases, up to a certain maximum.
After reaching this maximum, the player no longer needs to attempt to increase the chain, and can simply recharge and reset the Radar over and over until a Shiny patch appears.
One random square in each ring will be selected, and if that square is a patch of grass, that patch will shake. If all four squares did not contain grass, then the game will display the message " The grassy patch remained quiet The chance that the patch in a ring contains the same species to continue the chain depends on the ring. There are also two different ways grass patches can shake roughly, one that shakes vigorously and one that shakes gently ; if a chain is started in one type, the chain will only continue in a patch that shakes the same way.
Different formations of patches have no apparent bearing on the odds of the chain continuing. Entering a Shiny patch will never break a chain, but if it is in a position where the game can select invalid patches for all four new patches, it may break after. These odds do not exceed the odds of the Masuda method until a chain length of 33 is reached. When used, four patches of grass will appear on-screen, one of which will randomly display a '!
If the player successfully selects that grass patch before the '! Again, if the player successfully selects the '! Yet again, if the player successfully selects the '!! It also cannot be used in the Friend Safari. Recharge the radar if needed. This can be helpful if the shaking grass patches are all different to the ones you've seen previous, you're searching for a shiny patch or the radar finds no shaking grass patches "The grassy patch remained silent Do this by walking 50 steps, being careful not to run into a shaking patch or let your repel run out.
This saves time, meaning you don't have to bother recharging the radar. Persist, persist, persist! Don't fret. Head for sparkling grass. Is the grass area too small? Maybe you should find a larger patch of grass, and then try again. If the Poke Radar still doesn't work, maybe it is out of battery. Walk around to charge the battery.
