Even from as little as rpm, there is no less than Nm on tap as against the previous Nm. This translates into faster throttle response, safer overtaking and sportier road manners.
The improvements have been achieved with a variety of means. For instance, the engine has variable inlet valve timing too, instead of only variable exhaust valve timing as before. What is more, cylinder displacement has increased from 2. And last but by no means least, the engine now has a new turbocharger — taken straight from the R-models.
The result is a highly competitive and potent combination of high performance, low fuel consumption and low emissions. Rapid acceleration with six-speed transmission The T5 engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission with Geartronic. This gearbox has been developed and built specially to handle high torque levels, up to Nm.
In automatic T5 cars, the electronic control systems have been modified to provide faster communication between engine and transmission — and a more immediate reduction in engine torque prior to gearchanges. This promotes faster gearchanges and a sportier driving experience. For detailed driveline information, see the enclosed technical specifications for each Volvo model. Disc diameter has increased from to mm. It was then modified to suit the front-wheel driven Volvo S80 which puts the emphasis more on comfort.
Now the range is being broadened still further, with the system becoming available as an option on the rest of the S60, V70 and XC70 models. This approach combines the best of two worlds — maximum control and thus safety, and at the same time the best possible comfort. Something else showing how much experience Volvo has of designing estates is the practicality of things like the fold-down rear seat arrangements.
There's nothing flimsy about the various catches and hinges, and all the processes work smoothly. The T5 interior is smart though not way-out fashionable, with comfortable and neatly finished leather-faced seats. There are interior options in which brown is over-stressed, and some of Volvo's colour schemes don't make the vinyl fascia material look good.
Buyers would be well advised to have a careful look through the interior trim choices. Multiplex wiring allows for all kinds of fancy features like seats aware of which of a pair of regular drivers is entering the car, because the system recognises A's remote control "plip" as being different from B's.
As a purpose-built estate, the V70 can carry much larger loads than many of the lifestyle types. Reply 3.
BMWexpert 11y ago Prof. So you wanna say that this estate version is faster than sedan? Reply 2. Reply 1. Shwingbob 1h I will contact them and ask to hopefully clear confusion RNL 1h can you show the engine? FastestLaps 2h This time also suggests suboptimal conditons.
We often sneer at the "traditional family station wagon," but what exactly does that mean? Surely, the big Buick Roadmaster qualified as such a vehicle. But why can't this gorgeous V70, with its hard-charging hp turbo five-in-line, be considered a "family" wagon? If I had young kids, I'd sure be happy to drive to piano lessons and soccer practice in this slick machine. It's a bit pricey -- I about choked when I saw the 45K as-tested on this baby -- but it's almost as cool as a PT Cruiser to this baby boomer who still prefers power over form.
When you drive over bumps on the highway in this V70, you get the same subtle thud-thud sound that's come to define German refinement. Overall, this is the best and most refined Volvo ever, and it has an energetic engine, too. My only gripes are radio buttons that are difficult to figure out without reading the owner's manual, and obscenely large buttons to direct air onto your face, torso, or feet.
Still, this is the only car that can give the Audi A6 Avant and 5-series wagon a run for the money. After all, Volvo wagons have always been angular and stern-looking. But what really bowled me over was the optional navigation system with its screen that rises out of the top of the dash. I dislike most nav systems because you have to take your eyes off the road to use them.
With this unit you can keep one eye on the road and the other on the screen. You don't have to take your hand off the steering wheel, either, because the control switches are mounted on the back of the spoke, within easy reach of your right index finger. Nifty and safe.
