This causes certain quests which require the audio to play glitch out and CTD; ex. This glitch is caused by an error in the engine that keeps it from unpacking the files properly. The above fix will correct the issue. This has been tested and proven safe and effective.

Objective Talk to Brynjolf. I learned that they are looking for a Blade named Esbern, who is supposed to be an expert on ancient dragon lore.
I've learned that he's hiding out in the Ratway Warrens in Riften. Objective Find Esbern in the Ratway Warrens. I found Esbern hiding in the Ratway in Riften, and convinced him to let me in to explain myself.
Objective Talk to Esbern. Quest complete. The conversations with Esbern may fail to continue or complete, with Esbern freezing.
Esbern will search his treasure, desk, and lab area of his room - if his conversation cannot be heard there is no way to know that he's actually talking while he does this - it may seem like he is frozen. The same is true after bringing him back to Delphine; he will be talking to her but the conversation cannot be heard.
Esbern's door [ ] In the first conversation, Esbern is voiceless and after the conversation he fails to open the door. It may take several minutes before the door opens as scripted. PC To open the door leave the Ratway and return.
Shut down the TCL , talk to him, then when he starts using the chest, kill him. Then talk to him again and tell him to lead the way. PC This can be sometimes fixed by backing up and then deleting "Skyrim.
If everything works it is recommended to set up preferences again rather than overwrite new files with backup. PC If the door does not open, face it then type setstage MQ , force Esbern out of the door and close it.
He will then open the door to get back in, he then will continue on with the quest though he may speak too fast to understand. Thx guys ; User Info: Fatalmorgana. I had the same problem, so I went back through the door to the ratway and then back to him and the door was open.
User Info: zappingampharos. There is a bug with the first meeting with esbern you need to download some voice files for him to 'patch' the problem. I had the same problem. User Info: Rockhumpton. You can set the subtitle on or download the patch because it seems that Esbern's "voice" is kinda have trouble. But even I had set the subtitle, he talk very fast!
User Info: MadanianGamer. The question was already answered. Is there a way how to fix that? First, use console command and disable the door then head in. After that, enable the door and spam talk esbern until he began to move. Lastly, spam talk to him till the quest started.
