View All Critic Reviews Jun 19, While it may be Pixar's weakest film to date, Cars 2 is still a satisfying diversion for two hours - even if the story and characters force you to turn your brain off.

Matthew M Super Reviewer. Dec 16, This movie lacked what other Pixar movies didn't lack. The first Cars was okay, but did we need a sequel? EpicLadySponge t Super Reviewer. Aug 18, Lacking compared to the first one, but kids will enjoy it anyway. Angela A Super Reviewer.

Nov 18, What a bizarre turn of bizarre events that came straight out from Bizarro world. Whhh What's the use? Mater wakes up finding himself tied up in London inside Big Bentley with Finn and Holley, also tied up, minutes away from being crushed by its gears.

The last race begins, and the criminals use the electromagnetic pulse device on Lightning. But surprisingly, nothing happens. Mater learns that a bomb was put into Lightning's pit crew area, set to explode when Lightning stops there. Mater then manages to escape to warn his friends. Finn and Holley succeed in freeing themselves as well.

But they find that the bomb is actually on Mater, swapped with his air filter. They warn him about the bomb just when he is about to rejoin the others. And Mater flees to protect them, with Lightning going after him unaware of the situation. Professor Z tries to detonate the bomb remotely, only to find that the device is out of the signal's range.

He then orders his thugs to corner Mater with his friends to have them explode together, but Finn, Holley, the army and police helped by Sheriff and Sarge intervene and have him arrested. Mater then figures out that the true mastermind behind the criminal acts is none other than Sir Axlerod himself, whose aim was to have the world relinquish the use of all alternative fuels in favor of the oil reserves in his possession.

Axlerod ends up confirming Mater's suspicion when he is confronted by him and forced to deactivate the bomb with a voice command to prevent it from killing himself. For exposing Axlerod as a criminal mastermind, Mater is knighted by the Queen and returns home with his friends where the cars from the Grand Prix take part into their own unofficial Radiator Springs Grand Prix. Fillmore reveals that Sarge replaced Lightning's Allinol before the last race with his own organic fuel mixture, which is what prevented Lightning from being affected by the electromagnetism.

Finn and Holley pay a visit to Mater, and invite him to join them in another secret mission. But he declines, claiming that he is in the place he should be.

During the credits, Lightning McQueen and Mater are shown to be driving through various locations around the world before finally returning to Radiator Springs. Three voice actors of the original Cars film have died since the first film had been released. Joe Ranft , who voiced Red and Jerry Recycled Batteries , died in a car accident in August during production of the first film.

Red appears in the movie, and does an inaudible cry. George Carlin , who voiced Fillmore, died of heart failure in June Lloyd Sherr provided the voice of Fillmore in the film. Paul Newman , who voiced Doc Hudson , died in September after losing an ongoing cancer battle. Lasseter was at first adamant that Newman would return, even though he had announced his retirement from acting.

After Newman's death, Lasseter said that they would see how the story goes with Doc Hudson. In international versions of Cars 2 , Jeff Gorvette is replaced in one scene by a different character, voiced by a regionally better known racer than Jeff Gordon: [15].

Notable voices in the international versions are Sophia Loren, who voices Mama Topolino in 21 non-English countries, [26] [27] and Jacques Villeneuve, who voices David Hobbscap in the French versions. Cars 2 was originally scheduled for a release, but Pixar moved the release down a year.

There is lot of nice, simple humor in the story. The scenario is "smooth" and it is easy watchable. There are much of action, surprises, cool techniques, like in James Bond. Yes,we could not expect that, but it is really OK. The characters are in many different places and they are meeting a different people.

Characters are 3D,they have feelings and we feel empathy about them. But,there is a "dark side" of film, which is not like Pixar. Enemies, propaganda and that stuff. These problems confuses and my 10 year old brother. It is not ugly or violent,it is just confusing to kids.

About animation,I will not discuss. It is still Pixar;great animations and visuals and everything about it. This is family film and it is really relaxing and enjoyable.

Maybe sometimes is confusing, but it is not acctualy so bad. FAQ 3. Was Cars 2 made in Stereoscopic 3-D? What is the short that accompanies 'Cars 2'? What model of cars are the various characters? Details Edit.

Release date June 24, United States. United States. Official Facebook Official site. Pixar needed to prove its box office powers as much as its artistic ambitions, which meant sequels to some of its most popular films, including Monsters, Inc. When Disney had purchased Pixar, they had installed John Lasseter as principal creative advisor to Walt Disney Imagineering, the division of the company responsible for the theme parks and cruise line.

But Lasseter prompted the Imagineers to make the entire land centered around Cars. This new land would now open in , around the same time originally that Cars 2 would hit theaters. The synergy was almost overwhelming. But speedbumps were ahead. In , word trickled out that the sequel was having massive story issues and that Lasseter was spending more time at Pixar than he was at Disney. Eventually it would be announced that Brad Lewis , an animation veteran who had produced Ratatouille for Pixar, was stepping down as the director of Cars 2.

Just as he had done on Toy Story 2 , Lasseter inserted himself as director. Lewis would retain a co-director credit. Pixar had replaced directors many times on projects midway through production, but this was the first time since Toy Story 2 that the big boss felt it necessary to assume control. Lasseter positioned the move as a yearning to return to the daily task of creation, instead of a necessity brought on by what was deemed a creative freefall.

When children want to play with the characters from the world, he takes a lot of pride in that.
